Redistricting Special Session

stand with hoosiers, not washington outsiders

We are at a pivotal moment in our country — the future of our unions, our democracy, and our freedoms is at stake. Donald Trump is desperately trying to rig the rules in his favor by demanding a corrupt, rigged redistricting process in Indiana, and he won’t stop there.

When one party can draw the lines, pick their voters, and guarantee their own victories, that’s not democracy, it’s a dictatorship in disguise. Legislators have used redistricting throughout history to attack the right to vote and weaken the voting power of certain communities. Using gerrymandering tactics, legislators manipulate voting district lines in ways that dilute our voting and make an unfair playing field in our elections.

Enough is enough. The Indiana AFL-CIO calls on our elected officials to reject this redistricting scheme and put people first. No more rigged maps. Fair maps mean fair elections, and fair elections are the backbone of our democracy.

This is a national issueThis unparalleled attack on democracy may have begun in Texas but it is happening here in Indiana next and will continue to sweep across the country. That’s why labor is united across state lines in the fight against this redistricting scheme and power grab.

In Indiana, we are proud Hoosiers. This is Indiana and we’re proud to not be like places like Washington, DC and we know political insiders and corporate bosses do not share our interests or values.

  • So why is Mike Braun and the Indiana GOP weakly allowing Trump to control them? To turn Indiana into Washington’s political playground? — all while ignoring the real problems faced by Hoosier workers throughout our state.

Mike Braun is letting Trump take over Indiana. With this redistricting scheme, they’re trying to  suppress the votes of hard working Hoosiers across our state. Why? Because Trump knows he’s in trouble — so he wants to rig the rules to keep himself and his billionaire buddies in power. We need leaders who put Hoosiers first, not those who play political games.
